It’s official, I can now say that I have traveled to China thanks to wedding photography. Yes, I know China, Texas is a little different than the country but it was a unique experience all the same.  The fun started as I approached the gate when the attendant informed me, due to the size of the plane, my carry-on luggage was going to need to be checked… In this case my carry-on was every lens, flash, and camera body I own. In other words, they were asking me to put my first born child under the plane.  As you can imagine this sent me into fight or flight mode. Luckily,  I had packed all of my other belongings in backpack made to carry camera gear.  So, I was able to frantically reorganize all of the necessities into the backpack and then prayed the entire hour for the well being of the rest of my gear.  Fear not, we arrived at the tiny airport in Beaumont in one piece which made me a very happy Houston wedding photographer!  Now, let’s get to work and document this beautiful love story.

Soon after landing I was greeted by the warmest smile in the south, a cool breeze and a big blue sky. When you are a destination photographer you always pray that Mother Nature will hold up her end of the bargain; thankfully she did not let us down!  Since I was dealing with completely unfamiliar territory, Hanna was prepared and  “dropped a pin” via Google Maps at all of the potential spots in town that were meaningful to their relationship. This made their engagement session flow seamlessly and we were able to maximize every drop of that golden light spread all over the field.  Hanna’s and Brad’s families go back several generations in China, so we were welcomed on several private properties that I otherwise would have only dreamt about entering. Gotta love that small town southern hospitality!

Hanna and Brad first met when Brad’s mom was Hanna’s preschool teacher but it wasn’t until 3 years ago when the couple was reunited at his cousin’s wedding. Come to find out,  their great-grandmothers were best-friends and would be proud to know that their two families will soon become one!
